Why does the job exist?

This position is responsible for the direct management and oversight of the Corrections Industries operations located in Grants, NM. The Corrections Industries Division (CID) is self-sustaining, and it is important that quality goods and services are delivered in a timely manner to produce revenue.

This position is responsible for the management of the professional shop, ensuring production schedules are maintained, accurate management of inventory, efficient allocation of resources to multiple ongoing projects, and collaboration with prison facility staff, up to and including the facility Warden. This position manages employee performance to include coaching, mentoring, training, evaluating, and implementing employee corrective action and evaluating employee requests for leave. Strong Supervisory experience necessary and experience in supervising staff in a Corrections environment and or the supervision of inmates/inmate work crews is strongly preferred.

Minimum Qualification

A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of heavy supervisory or limited professional level experience operating within strict parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below. Agency may designate that a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment Requirements

Pre-employment background investigation is required and employment is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Working Conditions

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
