General Purpose:
Perform a variety of routine and complex clerical, administrative and legal secretarial work in support of the County Attorney’s office. Legal Assistant III will act as Team Lead.
Essential Functions:

Legal Assistant I
- Under close supervision, uses computer and software applications to accurately type and edit basic correspondence; enter data; retrieve data; search databases; create documents; and send emails.
- Prepares and files with the court legal pleadings, such as complaints, motions, notices, subpoenas, leases, deeds, agreements, resolutions and correspondence.
- Processes various documents, ensuring that all necessary forms are complete and accurate.
- Answers and routes telephone calls: appropriately greets caller, assesses situation. Takes accurate messages and completes transaction.
- Assists the public and/or employees at front counter: appropriately greets visitors; answers routine questions; locates documents; fills out forms; makes copies. Displays a clear attitude of customer service.
- Processes incoming and outgoing mail.
- Prints, copies, assembles, distributes and files documents and maintains files.
- Interacts with other Offices and Departments and outside organizations to obtain and provide information.
- May prepare and arrange for publication of agendas and legal notices.
- May perform hand deliveries.
- May coordinate service of court documents.
- Drives vehicle to perform one or more essential functions.
- Reviews all work products to ensure highest level of quality.
- Performs other duties of a similar or related level as necessary or assigned.
Legal Assistant II:
- Under minimal supervision, performs all essential functions of the Legal Assistant I.
- Prepares complex contracts and legal pleadings such as briefs with multiple case law references and/or numerous legal citations.
- Prepares summonses, notices of hearing and notices of a change of setting.
- Arranges and follows up on service of process and publication of legal notices.
- Creates spreadsheets.
- Makes suggestions for improving and updating filing system.
- Assists in preparation of exhibit and attorney trial notebooks.
- Assists in preparing materials for BOCC meetings.
- Assists in preparing monthly invoicing for the Department of Human Services.
- Files pleadings electronically with the courts.
- Assists in scheduling of depositions.
- May assist in ordering office supplies and maintaining office equipment.
- May assist in analyzing current documents for scanning and/or document retention.
- May assist in registering employees for trainings and arranging travel arrangements.
- May assist in the development of legal forms.
- May assist in creating PowerPoint and other formal presentations.
- Performs other duties of a similar or related level as necessary or assigned.
