Job Summary

This is a permanent, part-time (24hr./wk.) position which receives pro-rated part-time benefits.

Assists in the coordination and the promotion of the day-to-day activities of the City's Farmers' Market program.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
:
Works under the administrative and technical supervision of the Farmers' Market Supervisor or designee, regularly performing routine assignments alone. Detailed instructions are frequently received and work is periodically reviewed.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED :
Exercises general supervision over assigned staff, outlining work assignments frequently reviewing work in progress and carefully reviewing completed work.

Representative Duties

Note: Duties may vary dependent upon assignment.
Assists in the day-to-day operations of the Farmers' Market program by recruiting farmers, regulating the number of booths and product mix and coordinating the physical layout of the booths at the market.
Enforces City, County, State and Federal regulations pertaining to Farmers' Market operations.
Familiarizes and implements Farmers' Market rules and regulations.
Collects market participants' load sheets. Tracks weekly sales data from load sheets and inputs market summary reports. Accurately tabulates and records total number of market participants. Tracks and follows up on late payments with market participants.
Assists with batch reports of weekly receipts and monthly billing statements and inputs market sales data. Assists with summaries and financial reports and periodic payments and reports to regulatory agencies, as assigned.
Prepares a variety of correspondence and materials related to the operation of the Farmers' Market including creating informational flyers and memos to farmers, patrons, and local businesses.
Prepares and maintains reports and completes a variety of forms and applications.
Schedules and conducts farm and/or Farmers' Market tours and audits, and inspects farm sites for compliance with Farmers' Market regulations, as assigned.
Maintains inventory of supplies used in the operation of the Farmers' Market including safety barricades, signage, maintenance equipment and office supplies. Orders supplies as needed.
Coordinates the clean-up of the Farmers' Market and monitors general maintenance such as street repairs and safety hazards.
Responds to inquiries from participating farmers and the general public.
Assists with planning festivals and special events as well as coordinating operational issues related to the Farmers' Market. Assists in developing programs that support Santa Monica's Sustainable City initiatives.
Collaborates with other City departments and outside agencies and local business and community groups on a variety of issues related to the operation of the Farmers' Market.
Recommends solutions to the Farmers' Market Supervisor in response to problems related to the operation of the Market.
Enforces and follows applicable safety rules and regulations, including setting up signage for street closures.
Attends professional conferences and meetings, as assigned.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience :
Graduation from high school or the equivalent. Two year of recent, paid work experience coordinating a certified Farmers' Market or large scale public event(s) which included frequent contact with the general public. An Associate's degree (or 60 semester units at an accredited college or university) may substitute for one year of the required experience.
Licenses and Certificates :
Possession of a valid class C driver license. CPR and First Aid training to be completed within six months of hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS
:
Work is performed outside in seasonal climate and weather conditions (at the market). Must be able to travel to various sites in the community. Must be available to work on weekends and holidays. Physical demands include lifting objects up to 75 pounds, walking, bending, reaching, standing and carrying objects.
