Cargo Agent Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Handle and process cargo shipments in accordance with company policies and procedures
- Perform data entry tasks to ensure accurate and timely processing of shipments
- Utilize EDI systems to transmit shipment data to customers and partners
- Generate leads for new business opportunities and maintain relationships with existing customers
- Dispatch shipments to carriers and track their progress until delivery
- Ensure compliance with all applicable FDA regulations for the transportation of food, drugs, and medical devices
- Manage contracts with carriers and negotiate pricing as needed
- Use AS400 system to manage inventory levels and track shipments
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in logistics or related field preferred
- 2+ years of experience in cargo handling or logistics operations preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
