The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking an Investment Stakeholder Engagement (Investment Communication) co-op student/intern for the Fall 2023 work term (September to December) to provide writing, editing, research, and project coordination support.

The Investment Stakeholder Engagement Co-op/Intern will work within our Corporate & Investor Relations department. This is a great opportunity for you to learn and apply your communication and project management knowledge to support the implementation of BCI’s investment stakeholder engagement program, including writing compelling and engaging content for a range of internal and external audiences to raise the profile of our asset class teams and portfolio companies. You will also use your research skills to identify companies and the sectors they operate in, and strategize/executeon ways to leverage BCI’s social media (LinkedIn) platform to promote our asset class teams’ activities.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
As an active, in-house asset manager, we’re sharpening our competitive edge and this includes having a dedicated program to focus on communicating our investment activities and information about our portfolio companies. The Investment Stakeholder Engagement team is responsible for strengthening and managing BCI’s long-term relationships with portfolio companies, investment partners, and other stakeholders. They develop and implement investment communication and engagement strategies; provide strategic communication counsel for asset classes, investment partners, and portfolio companies; provide issues management related to portfolio companies; and develop messaging to assist with responding to queries from our clients and the public pertaining to BCI’s investments and/or portfolio companies.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Work under the supervision of the Senior Advisor, Investment Stakeholder Engagement to assist with various writing, research, and project management tasks
- Track and document our portfolio companies’ LinkedIn presence and identify themes as well as recommend posts that BCI should consider reposting on our corporate LinkedIn page
- Develop profiles of BCI’s investments to be used for our internal and external audiences, including clients for use in their annual reports and websites
- Research and write “good-news stories” relating to BCI’s portfolio companies for our internal and external audiences
- Support the Senior Manager and Senior Advisor by proofing and editing content planned for publication/distribution
- Coordinate the logistics involved with announcing investment transactions and clearly communicate required information and instructions to other team members
- Maintain/update processes and procedures documents (as required) related to the Investment Stakeholder Engagement program
- Research industries/sectors related to our portfolio companies
- Ad-hoc projects and tasks as assigned by the Senior Manager and Senior Advisor of Investment Stakeholder Engagement
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Strong creative and technical writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail
- Technologically savvy with advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Skilled in creating professional presentations aligned with BCI’s corporate brand
- Ability to effectively manage projects in a deadline-driven environment, taking into consideration available resources and timeframes
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively
- Strong research skills combined with problem-solving abilities
- An interest in investment management, a dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn
- Fundamental knowledge of basic business and investment-related disciplines is preferred
- Knowledge of working in a Microsoft Teams environment is preferred

- Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island
- Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location
- All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office. We are piloting a hybrid program whereby employees may work from home up to two days per week. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
