Job Summary

The Bookstore is the University's one-stop shop for books, supplies and stationery, clothing and giftware. In addition, The Bookstore Starbucks location provides coffee and a variety of snacks. The Bookstore offers services to faculty, students, staff, members of the local community, and is part of a greater community of campus service providers

Reporting to the Starbucks Manager, this position assists the Starbucks Operations Supervisor in supervising the daily operation in the high volume Starbucks located at the lower level of the bookstore. The Shift Leader is responsible for daily supervision of baristas in the Operations Supervisor's absence and assists in training of café employees. In addition, the Shift Leader prepares food and beverages, operates the cash register, operates the coffee machines, and completes light manual duties.

Job Requirements

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a service oriented attitude
  • Cash handling accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Strong supervisory, interpersonal, customer service and training skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to address customer complaints


Specialized Knowledge/Education:

  • Good working knowledge of principles, techniques and practices of food preparation and storage
  • Working knowledge of cash, debit and credit card transactions and reconciliation
  • Must complete the specialized Starbucks training program
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate


Experience:

  • 1 years relevant experience as a barista or an equivalent combination of education and experience
