POSITION PURPOSE
Unite UW is an on-campus cultural exchange program under the Center of International Relations and Cultural Leadership Exchange (CIRCLE) at the University of Washington. This quarterly program connects domestic and international students, to enrich cultural understanding, foster lasting personal connections, and create a community of belonging. For the past four years of Unite UW history, we have proudly served 1000+ students and built them a family-like community.

The Unite UW Program Manager is responsible for the implementation and execution of the Unite UW Program and all of its components each quarter, including Early Fall Start. The Unite UW Program is a program under CIRCLE, a new department on campus that serves as a hub for international student support and engagement. Unite UW is an integral part of CIRCLE’s strategy to be a “home away from home” for students.

Position Complexities
This position requires an understanding of multiple cultures, norms, expectations, and traditions of foreign countries and how those interplay with American culture. The Unite UW Program Manager shares the program’s philosophy, demonstrates cultural understanding and passion for cross-cultural exchange, and displays a high-level customer service in higher education setting.

Position Dimensions and Impact to the University
This position is an opportunity for a dynamic leader to continue momentum of the Unite UW program as an integral part of international student programs at the University of Washington—Seattle. We are seeking a student-centered candidate to manage day-to-day Unite UW program operations, supervise student leaders, implement a social media strategy, and execute Unite UW alumni engagement. The successful candidate shares the program’s values, demonstrates cultural understanding and passion for cross-cultural exchange, and displays a high degree of customer service within a higher education setting. The program manager reports to the Associate Director of CIRCLE.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management
  • Manage entire Unite UW program logistics each quarter to include recruiting student leadership teams, booking facilities & transportation, submitting catering orders, and managing participant applications.
  • Facilitate weekly activities for Unite UW participants that focus on cross-cultural exchange, self-discovery, and leadership development.
  • Lead weekly program leader meetings; support student growth while keeping positive team spirit.
  • Check in and connect with individual participants, to create a safe environment for all.
  • Process quarterly program reflections and make program adjustments based on participant feedback. Draft an annual program report.
  • Meet budget goals and reconcile monthly expenses.
  • Create and execute promotional plans to reach application goals.

    Social Media Strategies & Outreach
  • Oversee all program social media platforms in collaboration with program coordinator. Work with student volunteers to update Unite UW program website.
  • Assist planning an annual promotion campaign on social media or other forms.

    Program Alumni Engagement
  • Work side by side with Unite UW Student Association (UUSA) board, support its quarterly activities, and participate in its annual member recruitment.
  • Facilitate three core alumni events: Unite UW ball, Lunar New Year dumpling making, end-of-year BBQ.

    CIRCLE Support
  • Provide administration support for CIRCLE and represent CIRCLE at events when needed.
  • Join the CIRCLE staff team, attend weekly staff meetings and events and provide support as needed.
  • Support CIRCLE initiatives including Husky Giving Day and summer new student transition programs as necessary.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in any field.
  • One or less years of work experience working in cross-cultural engagement and program management. Working with a diverse student population.
  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Understand the challenges and meanings of international education, cultural exchange, as well as community building with a diverse student population.
  • Be familiar with and passionate about college student engagement in both small and large scales.
  • Have at least one year’s experience in event planning, group facilitation, and program administration.
  • Have knowledge of leadership development theory and know how to support and motivate student leaders.
  • Have strong public speaking to present in front of large groups.
  • Be social media savvy, with demonstrated skills in engaging students via Facebook, Instagram, etc.
